Alternatively you can auto-reload your pillbox by pressing the pill button (again R1 I think) and the reload button at the same time (this also automatically combines herbs you have to make the most suitable combination for reloading it). Then you press the pill button to use them (RB/R1 I think by default). You open inventory and use the option on them to make pills out of them.
